It’s becoming harder to talk about the issues that matter most. Conversations can quickly turn tense, people feel unheard, and opportunities for understanding are lost. Yet strong communities depend on our ability to listen, communicate with respect, and stay connected even when we disagree.
During Rotary International’s Peace and Understanding Month, the six Rotary Clubs of Frederick County are coming together to help create space for meaningful dialogue through an interactive Peace Forum, Courageous Conversations: Speak Your Peace.
This event is designed to be more than a discussion. Guided by the Maryland chapter of Braver Angels, participants will practice practical tools for civil discourse, learn how to listen with intention, and explore ways to engage across differences with curiosity and respect. These are skills that strengthen relationships in families, workplaces, Rotary clubs, classrooms, and the broader community.

The forum will be held at Frederick Community College, intentionally engaging FCC students alongside Rotarians and community members. Hosting the event in partnership with the college’s MOSAIC Center reflects a shared commitment to fostering connection, belonging, and thoughtful civic engagement beyond the classroom.
Rotary’s role is to bring people together and create opportunities for understanding. By collaborating with Braver Angels and Frederick Community College, Area 5 Rotary clubs are helping make these important conversations accessible, welcoming, and constructive.
