In November 2024, members of Key City Rotary Club gathered at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, MD, for a meaningful act of remembrance—placing flags to honor those who served our country. This project was more than a simple gesture; it was a demonstration of Rotary’s guiding principle: Service Above Self.

Rotary has always been about more than meetings and networking. It’s about community. It’s about stepping forward when there’s work to be done and doing it with care and purpose. For the volunteers who spent that crisp autumn morning walking through the cemetery, placing flags by the graves of veterans, the task carried a profound sense of gratitude. Each flag represented a life dedicated to service—an echo of the same commitment that inspires Rotary members today.
Acts like this connect us. They remind us that service is not measured by size or scale, but by the heart behind it. For Key City Rotary, honoring veterans is part of a larger commitment to making Frederick stronger, kinder, and more united. From community clean-ups to food distribution events, every project reflects the same mission: to serve where we are needed most.
The day at Mount Olivet was quiet, but its impact was lasting. It strengthened bonds between members, deepened their connection to the community, and paid tribute to those whose sacrifices allow us the freedoms we cherish.
As the flags rippled gently in the November breeze, one truth stood out: when we serve together, we honor not only the past but also the promise of a better future. That’s what Rotary is all about—service, fellowship, and the belief that small acts, done with great care, make a world of difference.
